Directory flags (DIR$B_FLAGS) consumers?

» close window

The Question is:

Is the DIR$B_FLAGS (DIR$S_TYPE, DIR$V_NEXTREC, DIR$V_PREVREC)
ever used? This field is defined in the $DIRDEF in SYS$LIBRARY:LIB.MLB.
I have dumped various ".DIR" files and the flags field is always zero - even
in directories where hundreds of versions of the same file exist.

Was DIR$B_FLAGS ever used?

The Answer is :

The DIR$B_FLAGS offset constant, as well as the constants that indicate
that the next or previous directory record matches the current record,
are referenced within OpenVMS components such as DUMP, the standalone
file system control process (STAACP), and BACKUP. As for components
of OpenVMS that actually use the capabilities of this field, no, the
OpenVMS Wizard is not aware of any.
