OpenVMS Alpha Internals and Data Structures?

» close window

The Question is:

I have trouble using SDA. Because I do not know enough OpenVMS internals.
The Compaq manual describes the commands very well but lacks on description
of context. How can I catchup? The only other source that I know of is the 2
books by Ruth Goldenberg. Bu
t the one that describes the memory subsystem is getting outdated due to the
changes in v7.n.
Thanks.

The Answer is :

Start with the current device driver manual, and the guide to
64-bit addressing. The former is available from Digital Press,
the latter is in the OpenVMS documentation set. Also consider
acquiring the OpenVMS Source Listings CD-ROM set and availing
yourself of the various OpenVMS training materials. (There are
currently three OpenVMS Alpha Internals courses, and these are
available in a classroom training format and as part of the
OpenVMS training Technical Resource Kit (TRK). Please see the
OpenVMS FAQ for details on training and TRKs.)

The part of the OpenVMS AXP V1.5 Internals and Data Structures
book that describes memory management is currently being updated
to reflect OpenVMS Alpha V7.2. This update will be available (as
a separate volume) likely sometime later in Year 2000.
