Advanced Server Client Configuration?

The Question is:

I am installing Pathworks v7.1a on several Win98 PC's. I can see our VAX
fine, but can not see our Windows NT 4.0 server. I can see the NT server
(and not the VAX) until I install Pathworks, at which point the VAX appears
and the NT server is no longer
visable. The NT server is running IPX.

The Answer is :

With the somewhat limited information provided, the OpenVMS Wizard
can make a few guesses as to what is happening.

The OpenVMS Wizard will assume the following:

    - The Microsoft Windows 98 system has IPX configured as the (only)
      network transport.

    - OpenVMS VAX system has DECnet configured as a network transport.

When PATHWORKS 32 SETUP is run, if you choose "Typical configuration",
the SETUP utility will automatically install the DECnet network
transport, the required system services files, the DECnet file transfer
utilities, the PATHWORKS InfoShelf, and similar.

You are able to access your OpenVMS VAX system after installing PATHWORKS
32 because both the PC system and the OpenVMS VAX system have a network
  transport in common: DECnet.

It is not clear why you can no longer access your Windows NT server
after installing PATHWORKS 32. One possibility is that (for some
unknown reason) IPX is no longer available on your Windows 98 system.
This can be check by looking at the network properties on the Windows
98 system. You may have to remove (if necessary) and then re-add IPX
back into your Windows 98 configuration a test.

Center directly if the problem persists.
