OpenVMS Cluster Campus Interconnections?

» close window

The Question is:

January 5, 2000

What are the current technologies available for a campus wide cluster
interconnect? I am wanting to cluster multiple Alpha Server 4100's or
ES40's between 2 sites with 1-2 km separating nodes. Is it ATM, is it
Fibre?, is it Gigabit Ethernet?

The Answer is :

Please see the OpenVMS Cluster SPD for the currently-supported
  communications interconnects.

OpenVMS Cluster configurations are supported over FDDI, over Memory
Channel (MC2), and over various other LAN technologies bridged or
switched via point-to-point connections -- when sufficiently large
bandwidths and sufficiently low latencies (eg: T3, ATM) are available
  in the interconnect.

OpenVMS Cluster configurations currently use Fibre Channel for
storage access, and not for System Communications Services (SCS)
connections. (See topic 3557 for a related discussion, among
  other topics.)
