AlphaServer ES40 Graphics?

» close window

The Question is:

I just received an Alphaserver es40 and there is not graphics device. Looking at
the FAQ, it talks about running the correct ECU and reboot. I have the ECU
V1.11A Dec Alpha diskette in the drive but cannot get ECU or RUNECU command to
work from the boot "
>>>" prompt (says: No such command).
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

The Answer is :

You do not indicate the exact text of the error message reported,
nor when the error occurs. (Please remember to include the exact
  text of the error message.)

The ECU tool is required for EISA configurations, and not for
  PCI-based configurations.

If there is no graphics device installed in the system or if you have
an unsupported graphics device, then please contact your hardware
support organization for assistance in reconfiguring your system.

If you have a supported graphics device installed in the system and
(as the OpenVMS Wizard suspects) are seeing this error message as part
of DECwindows startup, then it is likely that the system parameter
WINDOW_SYSTEM is incorrectly set (in MODPARAMS.DAT) and/or AUTOGEN
  has not been run.

Various of the contents of the FAQ section "DECW6" are specific to the
DEC 2000 series system and configuration, and various of the items in
that section do not apply to other Alpha systems. The OpenVMS Wizard
will endeavor to submit an update for the next edition of the FAQ.
