The Question is: I currently have a number of 4.3 GB disk in an sw800 coab with hsj40 controllers in dual redundant mode. The disks are mirrored via the controller. the shelves are ba356 . The hsj40 firmware version is 2.7 Trying to upgrade to hsj firmware version to 3.4 leaves disks in an unreadabel state, with "Incompataible Metadata" error messages, and the disks are unreadable from the Openvms7.1 and 7.2 systems. The local engineer thinks we may have to re-initiali se all our disks and then restore the data. We cannot do this as we don't have sufficient downtime. Is thare any other way? Can we use hsutil to copy on correct firmware levels to the disks ready for the firmware upgrade? The Answer is : Please contact your StorageWorks hardware support organization or the Compaq Customer Support Center for assistance -- the OpenVMS Wizard is not particularly familiar with the upgrade problems involved with this range of firmware, nor with the particulars of the metadata error.
