Disk Unrecognized by OpenVMS?

The Question is:

 
I am running Open VMS6.2-1h3 on an Alpha Server AXP/2100. My problem is that
 one of my 6 RZ29-B disks broke down and was replaced by a new one; and now the
 system does not recognize it. I need to know how to do a minimum boot, so I
 can alter the startup p
rocedure and/or initialize the disk. Thank you.
 

The Answer is :

 
  Please contact your hardware support organization -- if OpenVMS
  "does not recognize" the device (specific error messages seen would
  be very useful for the OpenVMS Wizard to know), then there is likely
  a hardware or hardware configuration error with this particular disk.
 
  The OpenVMS Wizard will assume that the recommended procedures for
  the repair were followed and the system was shut down and powered
  down before the SCSI chain was disconnected, or that the device
  was dismounted and the SCSI bus was quiesced via a SCSI controller
  (if so configured).
 
  With the next reboot, the console will configure the device and
  OpenVMS will then see and configure it based on information provided
  by the console, typically without further problems nor intervention.
 
  The device can then be INITIALIZEd and MOUNTed as required directly
  from OpenVMS, often with a volume name specified that matches the old
  device.  (If a new volume name is chosen, the site-specific startup
  procedures will need to be edited to alter the volume label on the
  MOUNT command typically found there.)  A reboot is not particularly
  required here, though a manual MOUNT and any necessary updates to
  the MOUNT command in the site-specific startup will be required.)
 
  Once the SCSI configuration has been vetted by your hardware support
  organization -- and assuming the above information does not assist
  you in resolving this -- please then directly contact the Compaq
