The Question is: I have a system with about 120 VAX and Alpha computers which print to 6 Digital Line Printers (LG08's). They have happily printed to these printers via LAT services for 10 years. Recently we started adding NT workstations into the mix. The problem we have is how to get NT 4.0 and VMS to both print to these printers. Is it easier to buy a newer printer? or is it possible to get NT 4.0 to print. We run these printers in the old fashion manner (no graphics - just 132 column listings of ground system and sate llite schedules). We have not been able to convince the operations folk to go to the new fangled laser printers. Problems we face: 1) NT always wants to place the printer in graphics mode 2) Thus can not get full speed out of the printer. 3) VMS does not want to co-exist with NT. As can not get VMS to restore the printer to useable mode without power cycling the printer. Thanks for looking at this. If COMPAQ has a consultant that can come in under a PL90 contract to help resolve, that is an acceptable solution. Art McClinton 703-610-1716 The Answer is : OpenVMS can easily serve printers to other platforms via PATHWORKS or Advanced Server, and can serve printers via IP protocols such as LPR/LPD. The OpenVMS Wizard is not in a position to describe how Windows NT might interact with a particular printer.
