Waiting for [SCSI port] to poll error?

The Question is:

 
We are trying to disconnect a raidarray 450 from an alphaserver 1000A. The
 RA450 is connected to a KZPSA appearing as bus 3 (pkc).
The 1000A boots just fine from internal disks on the A bus with the RA450
 connected. When we disconnect the RA450 the system will not boot and displays
 "waiting for pkc0 to poll". We do not need to use the KZPSA but would like to
 leave it installed in the
 system if possible.
 

The Answer is :

 
  Messages such as "waiting for [device] to poll" can indicate problems
  with the specified SCSI bus, such as SCSI termination or a unit-number
  collisions.
