Shadowing of RAID volumes permitted?

The Question is:

 
Can i 'sofware' shadow (with VMS) 2 volumes which are already 'hardware'
 mirrored (=RAID-1 sets)?
For my application i need to be able to separate shadow sets every night, run
 some batches and start shadowing again, in order to reduce on-line down time.
