System hang and crash?

» close window

The Question is:

We had a system hang up with the following error
_DT_WM_PROTOCOL WARNING - NO RUNNING APPLICATION HANDLES THE DTHOME_SHOW REQUEST,
RESTART ACTION "INVOKE FILE MGR" WAS UNSUCCESSFULL.
The system would not do anything. could you please advice where I could locate
information on this error message. The whole system crashed and we had to
 init/restore the system.
thanks for your help

The Answer is :

This does not initially appear to be an OpenVMS error, though it is
remotely possible this is some sort of DECwindows-related error.
(Some of the keywords appear to be related to X Windows, but the
error message format is not that of typical OpenVMS applications.)

Please identify the package(s) involved, and then contact the support
  organization for the package(s).

If the entire system crashed and you had to restore (what was the
crash?), this would tend to point to a very severe corruption and/or
  a hardware problem.

Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center, as the CSC can help
you identify the failing component(s) and package(s), and can gather
the additional information necessary to determine what happened and why.

The OpenVMS Wizard would encourage you to move to (at least) OpenVMS
Alpha V7.1-2 and to the current ECOs, as well as moving to more recent
versions and/or to current ECOs for the other packages (DECwindows?)
installed on the local OpenVMS system.
