I am considering buying a server that is an Compaq Alpha running open VMS, I
 would like to know how long will this platform for hardware and software be
 supported?

  If you wish Compaq to issue you a specific, formal, long-term commitment
  letter for OpenVMS, please contact your sales representative and request
  it.
 
  A continually-rolling series of roadmaps have been available on the
  OpenVMS website for some time now, with details of where the operating
  system and various products are being enhanced over the upcoming years.
  Information around DII COE and the associated commitments are also
