» close window

The Question is:

We use type driver restore operating system (7.1-2)to new DS10 from old ALPHA
 DS9 machine,but monitor not display.
Old ALPHA DS9 is used 17" monitor and new purchased DS10 is 15" monitor.
We replaced 15" to 17" for new DS10,That's OK.
We must buy a new 17" monitor whether or not ?And can setup display property
 in OpenVMS 7.1-2.
Can you tell us?
Thank you!

The Answer is :

Compatibility depends highly on the particular graphics controller
and the particular monitor, as well as on the DECwindows settings.
Please see the OpenVMS FAQ for general information, as well
as topics such as 5448 here in Ask The Wizard.

Without details of the graphics controller -- several graphics
controllers have been described here in Ask The Wizard in some
detail -- and details of the particular video monitor involved,
the OpenVMS Wizard cannot determine the compatible resolutions
(if any), nor the particular resolution(s) available.

The OpenVMS Wizard is entirely unfamiliar with a "ALPHA DS9" series
system and will guess that this might be a reference to the
AlphaStation XP900 series, and the OpenVMS Wizard will further
assume the reference to the "DS10" is to the AlphaServer DS10.
(Unfortunately, these assumptions do not provide details of the
specific graphics controller(s) and the specific video monitor(s)
  that might be involved here.)

Assuming that the OpenVMS FAQ and the other discussions here in the
Ask The Wizard area are insufficient for your needs, please contact
your hardware support organization or the Compaq Customer Support
  Center.
