Third-party SCSI Storage? (Quantum)

The Question is:

 
We tried to change our system disk to a quantum atlas v 18GB drive on a asus
 pci-pc200 controller. It turned out that  the drive doesnt work ... even a
 fresh install of vms doesnt work on the drive ... the machine just hangs. What
 can we do about that ?
