TCP/IP user- and domain-part SMTP substitution?

» close window

The Question is:

TCPIP 5.0A ECO x

I would like to set up a VMS-System to support
multiple domains and alias usernames as i
can do it with sendmail on unix systems.

eg.

VMS-user: rossbach
mail address should be dieter.rossbach@domain1.com

vms-user: smith, ,mail address should be john.smith@domain2.de

I can't see a way to set TCPIP /SMTP /POP eg. to do that. Any hints?

The Answer is :

TCP/IP Services does not currently provide per-user domains, though
it does offer domain substitution (alias domain) capabilities.
In other words, substitution based on the domain-part of RFC822 is
available, while substitution based on the local-part is not.

An obvious approach would be use of a sendmail port on OpenVMS.

Alternatively, you might be able to achieve something analogous to
what you seek via the RFC822 percent notation and routing the message
through the local host, or via an external email list server.
