Seeking DSSI/StorageWorks Wizard?

» close window

The Question is:

Dear Wizard, please can you help me find technical information on the DSSI
interface, for example a datasheet for the DEC DC205C (DSSI controller chip
e.g. as used on the RF35 hard drive circa 1988).

If this is not possible, do you know of any 'box' ever made that allows block
access to a DSSI drive via a SCSI interface?

I know that you're a very busy animal, but any help would be most gratefully
 received...

thank you, Robin.

The Answer is :

You have reached the wrong wizard. That said...

Given current equipment prices and given the age, low capacity, and
low bandwidth of storage devices of the vintage of the RF-series disks,
the OpenVMS Wizard would recommend forgetting any plans to connect a
DSSI disk to a SCSI system. Get a SCSI disk.

The details of the DSSI interface and signalling are not published.

The DSSI interface and signalling are not compatible with SCSI.

There is no SCSI to DSSI converter, though several DSSI to SCSI bus
converters do exist -- various of the HSD-series adapters being the
  salient examples.

Please contact a StorageWorks Wizard for assistance with this question.
Please also realize that DSSI hardware was retired some time ago.
