DSSI/HSD allocation class settings?

» close window

The Question is:

How do I setup SCSI drives connected to a VAX 4000 model 600, via a HSD10 DSSI
to SCSI adaptor, to use VMS Volume Shadowing?

The scsi drives have names like HSD10$DIA110:, despite the SYSGEN ALLOCLASS
 being set to "1".

The Answer is :

You need to access the HSD controller, and change the allocation class.

The system parameter ALLOCLASS affects the OpenVMS host and the disk
storage served by the OpenVMS host. Storage served by an intelligent
controller will have its own allocation class settings. If you wish
OpenVMS to serve through DSSI or CI storage, you must configure the
same allocation class, and you must configure unique unit numbers
across all devices sharing the same allocation class value.

Details on accessing DSSI devices are contained in the OpenVMS FAQ.
