DCL SUPERSEDE Error? Mouse-less Workstation?

» close window

The Question is:

I have a VAXstation 4000 Model 90 that displays the following message on the
top of the screen:

% DCL-I-SUPERSEDE, PREVIOUS VALVE OF SACDA$DISK HAS BEEN SUPERSEDE.

also

can I use the VAX withouT Mouse, and where can we Buy a mouse for vax 4000
 model 90.

The Answer is :

As for your request for a replacement mouse, please contact Compaq
Assisted Services, Compaq Services, your hardware support vendor,
or a prefered third-party used-equipment vendor for pricing and
availability. As for operating a DECwindows system without a mouse
connected or with a failed mouse, please see the OpenVMS FAQ for
the details of the available "dead rodent" mode.

As for the SUPERSEDE message, the OpenVMS Wizard will assume that
this message is displayed by a login or sylogin or other DCL command
procedure, a procedure which uses the DEFINE or ASSIGN command, and
particularly a procedure which overwrites an existing logical name.
If you wish to suppress this, use the DEFINE/NOLOG qualifier.

As for your current OpenVMS VAX version, the OpenVMS Wizard strongly
recommends an upgrade to V6.2, V7.2, or V7.3 -- both user- and
privileged-mode code are typically expected to continue to operate
after an OpenVMS VAX upgrade from OpenVMS VAX V6.0 and later releases.

  From HELP/MESSAGE:

SUPERSEDE, previous value of 'logical-name' has been superseded

Facility: CLI, Command Language Interpreter (DCL)

Explanation: The specified logical name was redefined.

  User Action: None.
