Passwords, External Authentication?

» close window

The Question is:

I'm deploying Pathworks32 v7.1 in order to allow NT Domain users (running NT
4.0 Workstation) to connect to an Alpha Server.

Is there a utility that will allow me to synchronise the user name and password
so that when either the NT Domain password or the Alpha password expires, the
user can change both at the same time, without having to contact the LAN
 Administrator?

Regards,

The Answer is :

With OpenVMS V7.1 and later, the available external authentication
mechanism permits an OpenVMS user to use SET PASSWORD and similar
tools to change or to verify the password on OpenVMS and in the
LAN Manager environment -- one password can be used across all
platforms sharing the LAN Manager environment. (The PATHWORKS 32
client is only needed if you require DECnet on the client systems.)

Good sources of information on External Authentication include
  OpenVMS HELP, specifically the V71_Features
  System_Management_Features External_Authentication section.

With OpenVMS V7.3 and later, Kerberos can be used.
