PATHWORKS Upgrade Considerations?

» close window

The Question is:

We have to upgrade our current software set as follows:
VMS 6.2 to 7.2
Defrag 2.3 to 2.5
TCP/IP 4.2 to UCX 5.0a
Pathworks 5.0 to 6.0b

My question relates to the upgrade of Pathworks from 5.0 to 6.0b.
When doing the upgrade, is the best option to use the Upgrade utility
installation? Do we need to do anything additional to this process? Will this
process effect any of the settings we have at present?

TIA

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard encourages you to read through the PATHWORKS
documentation for the upgrade -- this documentation should make
the requirements and implications quite clear.

You will want to move to TCP/IP Services V5.0A with the ECO, or
(better) to V5.1 with the ECO.

You will also want to upgrade to PATHWORKS V6.0D, the current
  release.

That said, the upgrade-only installation installs the Upgrade tool
used to help plan and eventually perform the upgrading of Users,
Groups, Shares and file security. Typically, the upgrade-only
installation is performed, the upgrade tool is used to plan the
upgrade, and eventually, the upgrade is performed. This "upgrade"
upgrades Users, Groups, Shares and File security from V5 format to
V6 format. Once this is complete, it is then necessary to invoke
VMSINSTAL (again) to install the PATHWORKS V6 file server in the
form of a complete installation. This is the step that actually
installs the new PATHWORKS V6 product.

For information on this specific topic, please see the PATHWORKS
Server Migration Guide, part of the PATHWORKS documentation set.
