» close window

The Question is:

I am going to FTP file to our network and need to get an idea of how large the
files will be. Does 1 block = 512kb? I saw something that referenced prog14
and misc13 but cant find that reference.

The Answer is :

The references that you found are to sections in the document known
as the OpenVMS Frequently Asked Question (FAQ).

The OpenVMS FAQ contains answers to many of the questions that are
  quite commonly asked.

You will find links to the OpenVMS FAQ document at the Ask The Wizard
website, and at the Compaq OpenVMS website.

Here are the titles of the two sections that you found:
PROG14. How many bytes are in a disk block?
MISC13. How do I check for free space on a (BACKUP) tape?

Obviously, the former section will be of larger interest.

One OpenVMS disk block contains five hundred twelve (512) bytes.
