» close window

The Question is:

I have some problem:
I want to install additional SCSI disk drive
on the VAX system model 100.The disk is 4.3GB
manifactured from Qantum model XP34300W.
Whene i run the system in console mode or boot
operating system the disk is detected for example DKA100 ,but whene i can try
 to init the
disk iread follow masege: Fatal drive error.
Really first time i test the drive in Alpha station and then no problem.
Can i format disk under VMS control,or must be
added some patches.
Than you

The Answer is :

There is no such system as a "VAX system model 100", and this will
unfortunately mean that the OpenVMS Wizard will be entirely unable
to provide a more specific answer to the question.

Please see the OpenVMS FAQ for information on third-party disks,
on maximum disk sizes permitted, on the maximum system disk size for
certain and specific members of the MicroVAX and VAXstations eries.

Please see the existing discussions of third-party storage here in
  Ask The Wizard as well.

If you wish to try third-party storage, the OpenVMS Wizard would
encourage you to use OpenVMS V6.2 or later, or (better) the current
OpenVMS release. Drivers in more recent OpenVMS releases than you
are running are far better at adapting to the many differences that
can exist among various SCSI devices. (Also, with V6.2 and later,
SCSI diagnostic tools -- such as SYS$ETC:SCSI_INFO -- were added.)
