DECwindows cannot open display?

» close window

The Question is:

What can cause this error? We are running x-windows from WRQ reflections x.

The Answer is :

  The set of reasons why an X Windows connection cannot be established
  from the X Windows client application on OpenVMS to the X Windows
  Server on the remote platform approaches infinity in size. Some of
  the more obvious and more common potential causes include a problem
  on the X Server, a network connectivity problem, erroneous remote
  display information on the SET DISPLAY, and access control specifications
  on the X Server that prohibit the incoming connection. One of the more
  common approaches used for determining the cause of the failure involves
  the use of the Motif ico toy, as this image provides reasonably detailed
  error diagnostics:

    $ set display ...
    $ run decw$examples:ico

  To determine the DECwindows version, you can use the following:

    $ @sys$update:DECW$VERSIONS

  Please apply the mandatory ECO kits for OpenVMS Alpha release in use,
  please consider an upgrade to a more current release, and please also
  upgrade DECwindows to current and install any associated ECO kit that
  might be available.
