Apple Macintosh OS X SMB (and NFS) disk services?

» close window

The Question is:

Dear Wizard,
I've tried to connect from a smb client (MacOSX 10.1.5) to a shared disk
managed by "Advanced Server V7.3 for OpenVMS": the result is the abort of
 PWRK$LMSRV:

PANIC: aborting from module AS$BLD_ROOT:[AS.UTIL.SRC]GC.C;1 at line 339!

What's wrong?
PS of course I can send you the whole log file if you wish.
Bye

The Answer is :

This is apparently a problem within the Advanced Server SMB stack, or
within the Apple OS X SMB client, or both.

The OpenVMS Wizard is not aware of formal support for the Apple OS X
SMB client within the Advanced Server package.

If you wish to pursue this, please contact the customer support center.

With the underlying UNIX NFS capabilities of the OS X operating system,
use of NFS would seem a reasonable, supportable, and alternative approach.
OpenVMS -- with either the hp TCP/IP Services package or with one of the
available third-party TCP/IP stacks -- can provide both NFS client and
  NFS server capabilities.
