The Question is: Will OpenVMS support LTO tape drives? If so, then what is the time frame for LTO support? The Answer is : For information on the devices and the platforms currently officially supported by OpenVMS, please see the Software Product Description (SPD). Devices (such as the HP Ultrium) and platforms (such as the Personal Workstation -a series) are not currently listed in the SPD, therefore these are not supported. OpenVMS does not support the HP Ultrium 1 (LTO) devices, as existing HP Ultrium 1 devices do not permit odd-byte transfers, and this capability is required by OpenVMS. OpenVMS expects to test various future HP devices for compatibility with OpenVMS, when these devices have the necessary support. The OpenVMS Wizard is not in a position to discuss device-support futures in conjunction with timeframes.
