The Question is:

how do i print to a windows pc printer on a lan?

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard would strongly encourage use of a printer-based
NIC device such as an HP JetDirect; either a printer-integrated or
an add-on network controller for the particular printer. This will
make an existing parallel or serial printer directly available via
a network. (Most new printers offer such an option, and replacing
an existing and older printer with a newer and faster printer -- and
particularly one with a NIC -- may be the most expeditious approach.)

  other topics.

Use of a host-attached printer increases the configuration complexity
and the relative difficulty, and with little or no added value -- use
of direct network access to printers is supported by most any current
operating system, and generally far easier to configure and troubleshoot.
(Remote served printing through another host means that you have to get
multiple hosts to agree, to remain synchronized, and to be powered up,
and this can potentially be a non-trivial effort.)
