The Question is: How do you configure a print queue? The Answer is : At its very simplest, the DCL command INITIALIZE/QUEUE will be used. (Specifics and details obviously involve the particular target printer. And a one- or two-line question is often surprisingly and exceedingly difficult for the OpenVMS Wizard to answer.) For an introduction to configuring batch and print queues on OpenVMS, please see the system manager's manual in the OpenVMS documentation set. For IP-based network printing, please see topics including (1020) and please also see the TCP/IP printing documentation for details of telnet and lpr/lpr printing. For Postscript printers, please see the DCPS DECprint Services product documentation, and various DCPS discussions here in Ask The Wizard. (Recent versions of OpenVMS include a license for DCPS.) The OpenVMS Wizard does not generally recommend parallel port printing, though such configurations can sometimes be possible -- depending on the printer and the platform and the available controller(s). (Network printers are generally easier to configure and operate.) For other printers, details on the printer and on the particular printer connection (serial, parallel, DECserver LAT, IP, etc) involved will be required. Please contact the support center. For related queue management information and particularly for details on the f$getqui lexical function -- should you wish to access the print or batch queue information from within a DCL command procedure -- please see topics including the following: (813), (1240), (2159), (3951), (4546), (4568), (4903), (5188) (5471), (5567), (5651), (5793), (5982), (6315), (6877), (6944), etc. This will be of interest once you have the queue(s) configured, and wish to start managing the job(s) in the queue(s), as well as managing the queue(s).
