EnergyStar Graphics Controller Shutdown?

» close window

The Question is:

Hi,
We have some Alpha 1000's with ZLXp-E1 graphics cards, and some Alpha 800's
with the Power Storm cards with LCD monitors attached. The bulbs for these
monitors have a limited life, and we would like to disable the sync pulses
 when the screen blanks (to
turn off the monitor). I have tried setting
DECW$SERVER_SCREEN_SAVER_PREFER_BLANKING to T and using Xset, but they only
appear to "blank" the screen, not turn of the sync. If there is any way to do
this, it would be greatly appreciated.

The Answer is :

The OpenVMS Wizard is aware of no supported way to shut down the
graphics controller synchronization and the DECwindows server
within your hardware and software configuration; these hardware
and software configurations greatly predate the EnergyStar and
similar efforts. The obvious approach would be to power down the
monitor, or to shut down the DECwindows server -- neither of which
is a particularly good solution, obviously.
