VAXstation and Licensing?

» close window

The Question is:

Hi,

Please be kind. I have inherited a Vaxstation 4000-90 which has VMS 5.5-2
installed. Someone has removed (stolen) the graphics adapter, screen and
keyboard. So I connected a VT420 to the serial port on the back.

VMS boots up but identifies the Vaxstation as #378 unknown Vaxstation 4000-90
and VMS will not load any licenses.

So, is this machine trash or can I do something?

Thanks for your time.

The Answer is :

Part of the licensing check involves the graphics controller and/or
  the presence of the keyboard.

Assuming you have followed the FAQ discussion of setting up a serial
console, you will want to acquire a graphics controller for this box.
You might want to try a more recent OpenVMS VAX release, but the
OpenVMS Wizard does not hold out particular hope for this.
