Commitment to DII COE initiative provides long-term support and application portability for OpenVMS customers

Renowned for its stability, reliability and scalability, OpenVMS has been the long-time operating system of choice for defense contractors. To reinforce and maintain this position in the defense industry, OpenVMS on HP AlphaServer systems complies with a set of Department of Defense specifications known as the Defense Information Infrastructure Common Operating Environment (DII COE) Version 4.2.0.0P4.

The DII COE standards describe a "plug and play" open architecture designed around a client/server model defined by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). The goal of these standards is to provide a common user interface, installation, and user environment across multiple operating systems.

As part of the DII COE initiative, OpenVMS Engineering has enhanced some OpenVMS interfaces commonly available on UNIX systems. This improves the ease of porting UNIX applications to OpenVMS.
