HP BridgeWorks

BridgeWorks Status

HP OpenVMS Engineering has decided not to port BridgeWorks to OpenVMS for Integrity servers. This decision was a difficult one based on emerging technology, customer requirements, and resources.

BridgeWorks Version 3.0A will be supported on OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.3-2 and 8.2-x over the support life of those releases.

Replacement Technology

The Web Services Integration Toolkit for OpenVMS (WSIT) is the replacement for BridgeWorks and the evolution of our technology to implement API-based integration solutions. This toolkit provides an easy to use set of tools that are 100% OpenVMS-based. The toolkit facilitates wrapping OpenVMS applications and code as a JavaBean object. The JavaBean can be exposed as a Web service or used by Jakarta Tomcat, a J2EE application server, JMS, Microsoft .NET, and so on, as appropriate for the larger integration solution.

WSIT provides the implementer with the most flexibility on the structure of the overall integration solution. WSIT was developed with Web Services in mind, but does nothing to force you to use Web Services.

WSIT provides support for the OpenVMS 3GL languages and ACMS. A migration tool (bwx2idl.jar) that eases the migration from BridgeWorks to WSIT is available from the WSIT download page. The Migrating to the Web Services Integration Toolkit from BridgeWorks whitepaper describes in detail the steps necessary to migrate.

The Web Services Integration Toolkit for OpenVMS is available now. See the WSIT home page for more information and to download the latest kit.
