Does Compaq X.500 Directory Service conform to the X.500
standards?
Yes. For full details, see the
SPD.
I've heard of 'DSA's and 'DUA's. What are they, and does Compaq
X.500 Directory Service provides both?
A DSA is a Directory Service Agent (the directory itself). A DUA is a
Directory User Agent, that is, the software that a user uses to browse and use
the directory. Compaq X.500 Directory Service provides both.
How do I manage the DSA and its entries?
You manage the DSA with the DECnet-Plus Network Control Language.
Compaq X.500 Directory Service provides two ways of modifying entries, a
command-line interface and a Motif GUI.
Can my DSA and DUAs be on distinct operating systems?
Yes. Also, as they conform to the X.500 standards, Compaq X.500
Directory Service products can work together with the DSAs or DUAs of any other
conformant supplier.
Can I use Compaq X.500 Directory Service to hold my Compaq Office
Server or ALL-IN-1 directory?
Yes.
I already use Office Server, with an X.500 directory. I want to use
Microsoft Outlook as a mail client, but using Compaq's MAILbus 400 MTA as the
backbone, sending and receiving X.400. Is that possible?
Yes, but the MAILbus 400 MTA needs to keep its addressing information
in a part of the directory separate from your present organizational
information. See the Compaq Office Server V5.0 Planning and Setup Guide
for details. (Note that this book was enlarged and revised for V5.0; the V4.0
Overview and Planning Guide does not contain the necessary
information.)
How long does it take to install Compaq X.500 Directory
Service?
Installing Compaq X.500 Directory Service takes about a minute . The
length of time taken to configure a directory system will vary according to the
system's requirements.
