The HP SNA Domain Gateway with Physical Unit Type 5 (PU5) support
enables IBM SNA networked 3270 terminal users (and PCs emulating
3270s) interactive access to HP OpenVMS applications.
In addition, the HP SNA Domain Gateway supports all the standard
IBM interconnect capabilities such as interactive access to mainframe
applications from OpenVMS platforms (3270 terminal emulation), remote
job entry, bi-directional file transfer, and application programming
interfaces (LU6.2, HLLAP, etc.) on both TCP/IP and DECnet networked
systems.
The HP SNA Domain Gateway supports both high-speed,
high-bandwidth connections directly to the IBM mainframe channel
(Domain Gateway-CT) as well as SDLC connections to the FEP (Domain
Gateway-ST), depending upon which dedicated gateway hardware device
is selected. The Domain Gateway-CT runs on the high-speed, high-throughput
DEC ChannelServer II dedicated gateway hardware (DESNB). The Domain
Gateway-ST runs on either the 4-line or 1-line DEC MicroServer
platform (DEMSA/DEMSB) for synchronous connections to the IBM
system.
The HP SNA Domain Gateways supports 3270 connectivity to HP OpenVMS
applications in the following ways:
- Custom OpenVMS application services programming interface
- Print Symbiont available with HP SNA 3270 Application Services,
which provides the ability to print to SNA networked printers
when used with the HP SNA Domain Gateway
- Standard off-the-shelf applications that normally run on any
VT terminal via the MEP VT for DEC SNA 3270 Application Services
