HP OpenVMS on AlphaServer systems to OpenVMS on Integrity server applications

The majority of applications running on HP OpenVMS AlphaServer systems Version 7.2x have moved to OpenVMS on Integrity servers.

The following products will not move to OpenVMS on Integrity servers:

  • Products not previously ported from VAX systems to AlphaServer systems
  • Products retired or in the retirement process
    • End of Support Life (EOSL) will occur prior to the release of OpenVMS on Integrity servers
  • Products with clear replacement strategies
  • Some products in (or moving to) Mature Product Support

HP OpenVMS Products with recent porting decisions (Updated November 2007)

Advanced Server
Advanced Server for OpenVMS will not be ported to Integrity servers. The HP OpenVMS Common Internet File System (CIFS) Based on Samba product will replace Advanced Server. Samba is the industry-standard open source file and print server that ships with most distributions of UNIX and Linux today. The Samba (CIFS) offering on OpenVMS will include numerous industry-standard features that Advanced Server does not offer today. Advanced Server will continue to be supported on AlphaServer systems running OpenVMS.

HP OpenVMS Common Internet File System (CIFS) Based on Samba product is presently in field test. The production quality release will support both Integrity server and AlphaServer systems and will be made available in December 2007 for download from the OpenVMS website. It will be made available as part of the Foundation Operating Environment (FOE) of OpenVMS in the Q2 2008 timeframe.

DATATRIEVE
DATATRIEVE for OpenVMS VAX, Alpha, and now Integrity systems is a query, report, and data management tool for the OpenVMS Operating System. It provides a uniform access method for data stored by RMS, Oracle Rdb, and Oracle CODASYL DBMS files on OpenVMS and data residing in other databases accessible by the Oracle Rdb Transparent Gateway products. Using DATATRIEVE, a novice or experienced user can retrieve or modify data without considering the underlying storage method or physical location. With DATATRIEVE, users can achieve fast, user-transparent access to heterogeneous databases with minimal drain on computing resources.

HP TDMS for Integrity and Alpha
HP TDMS for Integrity and Alpha is an older-generation character cell terminal forms package for transaction processing environments. DECforms migration tools are available via a third party.

HP TDMS Version 2.0 for OpenVMS is now available on both Integrity and Alpha. For Integrity, the TDMS V2.0 kit is included on the I64 Layered Products Library. For Alpha, the TDMS V2.0 kit is included on the Alpha Software Products Library.

HP Common Internet File System (CIFS) Based on Samba V3
HP OpenVMS has delivered a Common Internet File System (CIFS) evaluation release (Based on Samba V3) for both Integrity servers and AlphaServer systems. An HP CIFS Production Release (Based on Samba V3) on Integrity servers and AlphaServer systems is planned for H2 2006.

Samba is the industry-standard open source file and print server that ships with most distributions of UNIX and Linux today. This up-to-date Samba offering on OpenVMS will provide numerous industry-standard features that the Advanced Server does not offer today, and will be supported by HP. OpenVMS will not port Advanced Server to Integrity servers. However, Advanced Server will continue to be supported on AlphaServer systems running OpenVMS.

The following products have been ported to OpenVMS on Integrity servers supporting OpenVMS Versions 8.2-1 and 8.3:

HP SNA Gateway Management Software (Has been ported to Integrity and is available now for ST. CT availability will be delivered on the Q1 2008 SPL.)

HP SNA Server for OpenVMS is not planned on OpenVMS Integrity at this time; however, it could be ported in the future based on customer demand. Porting the HP SNA Server for OpenVMS to Integrity would also require a driver and qualification effort in support of a NIC to complete this product.

SEVMS VAX and AlphaServer systems June 2004 OpenVMS customers no longer require this product. The current customer requirement is for C2 security, which is now incorporated into the OpenVMS operating system.

Allen-Bradley INTERCHANGE DAS VAX and AlphaServer systems The replacement product is BASEstar Open DAS.
ALL-IN-1 Office Server VAX and AlphaServer systems The replacement product is Office Server. ALL-IN-1 will continue to be certified on new versions of OpenVMS and will be supported through 2005. Continued support for Office Server on VAX and AlphaServer systems is planned for the forseeable future.
BASEstar Classic VAX and AlphaServer systems The replacement product for BASEstar Classic is BASEstar Open. BASEstar Classic has PL/1 compiler dependencies.
BridgeWorks AlphaServer systems The replacement product is the Web Services Integration Toolkit (WSIT), which is offered on AlphaServer systems and Integrity servers.
COM AlphaServer systems Microsoft has replaced COM with .NET. The recommended replacement is Web Services technologies and/or selected partner integration technologies to integrate with .NET. COM support on the AlphaServer platform will continue based on customer demand.
DECamds VAX and AlphaServer systems DECamds will continue to be supported on VAX and AlphaServer systems on the v7.3x family. Availability Manager will be the supported product on AlphaServer systems and OpenVMS v8.2 and above for Integrity servers. VAX systems can be monitored by Availability Manager running on AlphaServer systems.
ECP Data Collector VAX and AlphaServer systems The replacement product is the Performance Data Collector (TDC).
ECP Performance Analyzer AlphaServer systems The OpenView Performance Agent plus Performance Manager will be available on Integrity servers and AlphaServer systems. The ECP Performance Analyzer will be maintained for AlphaServer systems only, and can be used to analyze data captured on Integrity servers.
MACRO-64 AlphaServer systems MACRO-64 is AlphaServer systems based and is offered as freeware. The replacement is the Itanium® Assembler.
MAILbus 400 VAX and AlphaServer systems The replacement product is PMDF-MTA.
Modicon DAS AlphaServer systems The replacement product is BASEstar Open DAS.
Netscape Navigator VAX and AlphaServer systems For AlphaServer systems, the replacement product is Secure Web Browser. Netscape Navigator is still available on VAX systems.
Open3D AlphaServer systems The new device drivers include this functionality, making Open3D unnecessary on Integrity servers.
PATHWORKS Server VAX and AlphaServer systems Advanced Server for OpenVMS will not be ported to Integrity servers. The HP OpenVMS Common Internet File System (CIFS) Based on Samba product will replace Advanced Server. Continued support is planned for PATHWORKS on VAX systems and AlphaServer systems. Advanced Server will continue to be supported on AlphaServer systems.
PHIGS AlphaServer systems HP will support the Radeon 7500 (ATI) card on Integrity servers for 3D graphics. PHIGS support will continue on OpenVMS VAX and AlphaServer systems based on customer demand.
PL/1 compiler VAX and AlphaServer systems The PL/1 compiler for VAX and AlphaServer systems is owned by Kednos This product will not be moved to Integrity servers.
Siemens H1 DAS VAX and AlphaServer systems The replacement product is BASEstar Open DAS.
Storage Library System (SLS) VAX and AlphaServer systems Recommended alternatives are HP Archive Backup System (ABS), ISE Job Scheduler, or Software Partners TapeSys products for OpenVMS system-centric backup solutions. For heterogeneous storage solutions in a SAN environment, HP recommends Legato NetWorker or HP DataProtector. All of these options have an existing (or planned) port to Integrity servers.
