HP OpenVMS Systems

Insight software is a complementary set of software products that enable you to efficiently manage and monitor OpenVMS servers.

The Insight Software products that are of relevance to manage an OpenVMS node are described below:

• HP Systems Insight Manager is the underlying foundation of the Insight software products. Insight software is installed on the Systems Insight Manager Central Management Server (CMS), the primary management console, which runs Microsoft Windows.
   

• Capacity Advisor: The HP Insight Capacity Advisor feature of Insight Dynamics is a tool for planning server capacity and power. It collects and analyzes historical data across thousands of variables on virtual and physical resources and generates plans for consolidation and rebalancing of existing workloads.
   

• Global Workload Manager: HP Global Workload Manager (gWLM) is a multi-system, multi-OS workload manager, an intelligent policy engine in the HP Virtual Server Environment. It will integrate with resource management (whole processor and sub-CPU allocation mechanisms within a single operating system) and virtual partitioning techniques to dynamically reallocate resources to applications based on application performance or business policy. This will improve server utilization while maintaining and monitoring service levels across many servers.
   

• Integrity Virtual Machines Manager: HP Integrity Virtual Machines Manager (VM Manager) is the GUI that you can use from your browser to manage HP Integrity Virtual Machines resources. VM Manager allows you to create, configure, and evaluate virtual machines, and to monitor and evaluate data and resources at the level of the VM Host. VM Manager is available as a standalone product that is installed on a VM Host and accessed through the HP System Management Homepage (HP SMH), or as a component provided with HP Insight Dynamics - VSE for Integrity. As a component of HP Insight Dynamics - VSE for Integrity, VM Manager seamlessly-integrates with other Insight Dynamics components.
  
  

• Virtualization Manager: The Virtualization Manager software provides a framework for visualizing your virtual server environment (VSE) at different levels of detail. All the systems and workloads are displayed in a graphical view. The hierarchical relationships between systems and their current utilization are displayed on a single screen. It also allows you to access additional VSE Management software for management and configuration of systems and workloads. Virtualization Manager collects utilization data for processor, memory, network, and disk from OpenVMS managed nodes through the Utilization WBEM provider.

• OpenVMS Version 8.3-1H1 and 8.4 Integrity systems can be managed from a Microsoft Windows CMS using Virtualization Manager, Capacity Advisor, and Global Workload Manager components of HP Insight Dynamics.
• HP-UX VM Hosts running OpenVMS Version 8.4 HPVM guest can be managed from a Microsoft Windows CMS using Integrity Virtual Machines Manager.
• Licensing for Insight Control power management is provided through OpenVMS Version 8.4 base operating environment (BOE) for Integrity servers.
