Hardware requirements

Please refer to the HP DCE for OpenVMS SPD for a list of hardware requirements.

The following tables provide disk space requirements for HP AlphaServer systems and HP Integrity server systems (block cluster size=1).

HP AlphaServer systems

Usage Disk space requirement
DCE Runtime installation 48,000 blocks
DCE Runtime use (permanent) 44,000 blocks
DCE ADK installation (includes DCE Runtime) 58,000 blocks
DCE ADK (includes DCE Runtime use (permanent) 54,000 blocks

HP Integrity server systems

Usage Disk space requirement
DCE Runtime installation 101,000 blocks
DCE Runtime use (permanent) 98,000 blocks
DCE ADK installation (includes DCE Runtime) 113,000 blocks
DCE ADK (includes DCE Runtime use (permanent) 110,000 blocks

These counts refer to the disk space required on the system disk. The sizes are approximate; actual sizes may vary depending on the user's system environment, configuration, and software options.

The CDS Server and Security Server images are automatically installed as part of the DCE Runtime Services, but they must be enabled by Product Authorization Keys (PAKS).

Software requirements

HP OpenVMS operating systems:

  • OpenVMS for AlphaServer systems: v7.3-2, v8.2
  • OpenVMS for Integrity servers: v8.2

TCP/IP is required to establish a DCE cell. DECnet may also be used in conjunction with TCP/IP for application communication, but TCP/IP is required for communication between DCE cell members by DCE services. DECnet-only environments are only supported for applications using just the RPC, and are not configuring their environment into a DCE cell.

HP DCE for OpenVMS supports HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS. It is also designed to work with TCP (UDP)/IP products from other vendors. Contact your TCP vendor to see if they support HP DCE for OpenVMS.

HP DCE for OpenVMS can communicate over DECnet Phase IV and DECnet Phase V (also known as DECnet Plus).

Optional software

  • HP C for OpenVMS for AlphaServer systems and Integrity servers
  • HP C++ for OpenVMS for AlphaServer systems and Integrity servers
  • HP Fortran for OpenVMS for AlphaServer systems and Integrity servers
  • HP X.500 Directory Service
  • HP Language-Sensitive Editor (LSE) for OpenVMS
  • HP Module Management System (MMS) for OpenVMS
