DIGITAL SNA Access Server Migration Guide

How to Use This Guide

This guide explains how to plan and implement the migration from a DECnet SNA Gateway to an Access Server Gateway on a Windows NT system. It supplements the information in the DIGITAL SNA Access Server for Windows NT Installation and Configuration Guide (Installation & Configuration Guide), which provides comprehensive information on setting up any Access Server Gateway, without regard to whether the new gateway will replace an existing DECnet SNA Gateway.

The main focus of this guide is to show you how to map existing DECnet SNA Gateway configuration information into SNA Server and Access Server configurations, so that existing DECnet SNA applications can be accessed by the new Access Server Gateway with little or no modification. It also provides information to help you make a smooth and trouble-free transition from the old gateway to the new one. Consult this migration guide only for the planning and implementation steps to follow when migrating from a DECnet SNA Gateway to an Access Server Gateway.

In addition to this guide and the Installation & Configuration Guide, you may need to refer to connection and configuration information in the IBM literature, the Microsoft SNA Server documentation, and the DECnet SNA Gateway documentation.

The appropriate Microsoft product documentation is the authoritative source for information about configuring, managing, and using SNA Server.

NOTE
The information in this migration guide expands on and supersedes Appendix C of the DIGITAL SNA Access Server for Windows NT Installation and Configuration Guide.
