DIGITAL SNA Access Server Migration Guide
DECnet SNA Gateway
In the late 1980s, DIGITAL introduced the DECnet SNA
Gateway-ST (synchronous transport) and DECnet SNA Gateway-CT (channel transport)
products. These network products, along with DIGITAL OpenVMS SNA applications,
enable internetwork communication by providing SNA functionality to DIGITAL
OpenVMS systems. This functionality includes 3270 terminal emulation (LU2),
printer emulation (LU1 and LU3), Data Transfer Facilities, Remote Job Entry
(RJE) emulation, and 3270 data stream programming interfaces.
NOTE
-
In this guide, the term DECnet SNA Gateway may refer to either DECnet
SNA Gateway-ST, DECnet SNA Gateway-CT, or both.
An OpenVMS system may be configured to communicate
with an IBM host through either a DECnet SNA Gateway-ST, a DECnet SNA Gateway-CT,
or both. Figure 1-1 illustrates a network
configuration implemented with both DECnet SNA Gateway-ST and DECnet SNA
Gateway-CT. Communication between the IBM host and the OpenVMS system can
occur through either gateway.
