HP OpenVMS Networking solutions

HP OpenVMS Networking solutions allow OpenVMS networks to be integrated with UNIX and Microsoft Windows systems. With OpenVMS networking products, OpenVMS customers using DECnet as a primary transport can take full advantage of TCP/IP features while maintaining a single backbone.

HP offers a broad portfolio of powerful networking solutions for OpenVMS, showcasing HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS for AlphaServer systems and Integrity servers.

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS version 5.6 is now available

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS, the HP industry-standard implementation of TCP/IP networking protocols on the OpenVMS platform, announces the release of version 5.6, supporting both AlphaServer systems and Integrity servers. HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 is designed to run on OpenVMS version 8.3.

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 is fully integrated with the OpenVMS operating system installation. It provides interoperability and resource-sharing among systems running OpenVMS, UNIX, Microsoft Windows, and other operating systems that support TCP/IP.

In addition to the supporting of OpenVMS on both Integrity servers and AlphaServer systems, HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 enhanced features provide support for heterogeneous environments, streamlined operations, simplified installation, greater flexibility, and increased security.

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 features

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 offers new and improved features:
  • NFS Server Support on Integrity
  • Client and Server SSH file format preservation
  • TCP/IP$CONFIG.COM enhancements for failSAFE IP
  • SSH upgrades with Kerberos support
  • DNS/BIND 9 Resolver and v9.3 Server upgrades
  • DNSSEC improvements

How HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS works

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS: How it works

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 provides superior network connectivity in a heterogeneous network environment. HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS provides enterprise-class services, and can easily address small-scale environments.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) allows dynamic management of IP addresses locally. Optimization of IP address space is handled by classless inter-domain routing (CIDR). The new industry standard management commands in HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.6 makes it easy to install, configure, and manage network transport service.

TCP/IP and DECnet protocols

Either TCP/IP or DECnet can be utilized as a single networking backbone, or an environment using both protocols can be created.

Microsoft Windows can also be integrated into OpenVMS environments for running two- or three-tier client/server applications. DECnet or DECnet-Plus can be used for the maintenance of a traditional OpenVMS environment. HP will continue to support both.

DECnet over TCP/IP enables long-term coexistence of both TCP/IP and DECnet applications over a single TCP/IP network backbone. This means that DECnet applications can continue to run over TCP/IP without modification, reducing the cost of systems, networking equipment, and management.

Advanced Server version 7.3 for OpenVMS

Advanced Server version 7.3 for OpenVMS, an evolution of PATHWORKS version 6.1 for OpenVMS, provides file, print, and LAN services for the entire OpenVMS computing environment. Advanced Server for OpenVMS provides seamless access to data and resources over TCP/IP, DECnet, or NETBIOS transports on either Microsoft Windows or OpenVMS systems. It also allows users and administrators to work in a single Microsoft Windows environment while accessing or managing data on OpenVMS.
