October 1997 marks the 20th anniversary of the VAX and OpenVMS family
of systems.
OpenVMS, the powerful, scalable and highly available
operating system --- along with the VAX, the first 32-bit mini-computer,
are turning 20!!
OpenVMS and VAX systems showed the World
that scaling from desktop to data center was practical and
demonstrated how clustered systems could achieve levels of
availability well beyond mainframes or "fault tolerant"
systems at affordable prices.
Tens of thousands of OpenVMS/VAX Systems are currently deployed,
serving "bet-your business" operations worldwide. Today 64-bit Alpha
systems
running 64-bit OpenVMS are marching boldly into the future, continuing
the tradition of at affordable costs.
We would like to take this opportunity to recognize our loyal
customers and dedicated employees. And celebrate the successes and
longevity of VAX and OpenVMS. Planning is underway for the worldwide
FY98 series of events, activities, and promotions to commemorate this
significant milestone.
A special issue of inFORM magazine will highlight the 20th anniversary
events and activities, including special promotions.
We will also keep you updated here on the 20th Anniverary web page.
