DIGITAL SNA access server migration guide

How Long Does the Migration Process Take?

When you estimate how long the migration process will take, you need to consider the following:

  • The time required to complete all the planning and migrating steps. This can take anywhere from a few hours to several days.
  • The elapsed time the migration process requires. This will depend on your migration strategy.

When estimating the time required to complete the migration, consider the following factors:

  • The size and complexity of the current DECnet SNA Gateway.
    • Larger networks with more nodes may take longer to audit and reconfigure than smaller ones.
  • The migration strategy that you choose.
    • If you plan to have the DECnet SNA Gateway and the Access Server Gateway coexist on your network, it may take longer to plan a configuration that will be able to function properly with both gateways.
    • If you plan to completely replace the DECnet SNA Gateway with the Access Server Gateway, it may take longer if a large number of Access Routines or nodes utilize the services provided by the DECnet SNA Gateway.
  • How familiar you are with your current network configuration and the tools used to plan and implement the migration.
    • If you are unfamiliar with either the tools or the existing network configuration, allow enough additional time to become familiar with them.
