What's New with HP TCP/IP Services

(June 2010) TCP/IP Version 5.7 released with OpenVMS Version 8.3

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Version 5.7 now available

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS, the HP industry-standard implementation of TCP/IP networking protocols on the OpenVMS platform, announces the release of Version 5.7, supporting both AlphaServer systems and Integrity servers. HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Version 5.7 is designed to run on OpenVMS version 8.3 or higher.

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Version 5.7 is fully integrated with the OpenVMS operating system installation. It provides interoperability and resource-sharing among systems running OpenVMS, UNIX, Microsoft Windows, and other operating systems that support TCP/IP.

In addition to the support of OpenVMS on Integrity servers, HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Version 5.7 enhanced features provide support for heterogeneous environments, streamlined operations, simplified installation, greater flexibility, and increased security.

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Version 5.7 features

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Version 5.7 offers new and improved features:
  • SCTP – A new transport protocol Stream Control Transmission Protocol is included
  • Packet Processing Engine (PPE) - a CPU for processing TCP/IP that increases the performance efficiency
  • FTP Anonymous Light - Used for restricting user access for a particular set of directories
  • TCPIP$CONFIG - Interface Configuration Menu is enhanced
  • NFS Client - TCP is enhanced as the default transport
  • LPD Configurable Port - LPR/LPD port can be configured
  • FTP over SSL - FTP software is enhanced to use the security features provided by SSL
  • SMTP cluster ability - SMTP is made cluster aware
  • SMTP ASCII file configuration - Supports the SMTP configurable fields
  • SMTP Persistent receiver - The SMTP receiver process is made persistent
  • POP ASCII file configuration - Supports the POP configurable fields
  • POP server support - Supports the POP server for external authentication
     

Engine-based on Berkeley Software Distribution Version 4.3 and 4.4, the TCP/IP kernel used for HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS v5.7 provides proven reliability and functionality, rapid introduction of new TCP and IP features, performance enhancements, and improved memory management.
