Chapter 4

Migrating to the Access Server Gateway

This chapter describes how to migrate to the Access Server Gateway from your existing DECnet SNA Gateway, using the planning information you developed in Chapter 3. The planning steps have taken account of whether the Access Server Gateway will replace the DECnet SNA Gateway or coexist with it.

The emphasis in this chapter is on configuring the Access Server Gateway to replace the DECnet SNA Gateway. Thus, the instructions and examples use existing DECnet SNA Gateway access names and parameters in the Access Server Gateway configuration. The migration steps are essentially the same, regardless of your migration strategy, once you have specified the parameters on the preparation worksheets. In the few cases where the migration strategy makes a difference to the migration steps, this is noted.

This chapter reviews all implementation steps, including how to configure Microsoft SNA Server; how to configure the Access Server with the parameters you defined in Chapter 3, including any existing DECnet SNA Gateway configurations; and how to test the Access Server Gateway.

  • It summarizes the steps required to configure the SNA Server and highlights the steps that are prerequisite to setting up the Access Server; for complete information, refer to the Microsoft SNA Server documentation set.
  • It provides specific, detailed information for migrating the DECnet SNA Gateway parameters to the Access Server; for complete installation and configuration information, you can also refer to Chapter 5 of the Installation & Configuration Guide.
