HP OpenVMS BACKUP utility
The HP OpenVMS operating system includes the BACKUP utility as a part of its base operating environment. This utility provides both full-volume and incremental file backups. Individual files,
selected directory structures, or all files in a volume can be backed up and restored. This utility will continue to be enhanced and supported with future versions of HP OpenVMS, including the port
to HP OpenVMS for Integrity servers.
The BACKUP utility in OpenVMS Version 8.4 has been enhanced to create and
restore a compressed saveset (archived data format) on disks and magnetic tapes.
The OpenVMS Version 8.4 BACKUP utility is also extended to support volume sizes
up to 2 TiB.» HP Storage Library System (SLS)
SLS is the HP heritage backup library solution for HP OpenVMS. It provides automatic, unattended backup for HP OpenVMS systems and HP OpenVMS clients. SLS will have limited support in the future,
including support for new versions of HP OpenVMS and remedial fixes only. SLS will not be ported to Integrity servers. More information for current SLS customers can be obtained through the above

ABS is the current automated backup library solution for HP OpenVMS. It provides scheduling, catalogs, and a robust media manager. ABS server runs on an HP OpenVMS host and also supports HP OpenVMS,
Windows NT, and Tru64 UNIX clients. ABS maintains online information about all files or volumes that are backed up so data can be quickly restored when needed. ABS will be actively supported well
into the future, including performance-based new features, support for new tape devices as appropriate, and support for new versions of HP OpenVMS, including the port to HP OpenVMS for Integrity
