Print Queue: Print to HP from VAXstation

The Question is:

Is there any way I can print to an HP LaserJet III from
a VAXstation 4000? On the VAX, we're using tta3. What
device_type should it be configured for? Is there any
special software we need to do this? The LaserJet does
not support PostScript. Any help would be greatly
appreciated - even if you could point me in the right
direction on where to look in the documentation. Thanks

The Answer is:

The port you need is TTA2. You need to configure the printer to do
XON/XOFF flow control. On the VAX you should set the line to have
/TTSYNCH, and /PASTHRU (note the spelling) also set the with to the
maximum legal value as well as the page length and /DEV=unknown. You
will need something to generate PCL if you want to output charts and
graphs. For plain ASCII text you should not need anything else.

I you have the DECprint Supervisor software and documentation it
may have some more details on hooking up HP printers.
